Your Passion

This is important whether you’re new to sales, a seasoned veteran or a small business owner.

First and foremost, if you are not passionate about your company, your product, yourself and your sales career, do something to change that.  You will never be successful in sales unless you believe and have confidence in yourself.  Attitude is everything may be cliché but it still holds true today.

I understand that outside factors play into a decision to work for or start a company in a specific industry.  However, if you do not have passion for what you’re doing or what you’re selling then you need to find a way to fix that.  Life is too short to be wasted in a career that you can’t stand.

That is the first step to success in sales.  Bottom line!

Developing your selling skills will never matter if your attitude, confidence and true belief in what you’re selling aren’t there.

Sales people ask me all the time “how do I become successful in sales?”

There are many answers.  My answer is the following…

  • Find a career you love
  • Work hard
  • Come in early and stay late
  • Develop your sales skills through coaching, mentors, reading and absorbing everything from people that are already successful
  • Differentiate yourself and what you’re selling from your competitors
  • Deliver true value to your customers to help them grow and be more successful
  • Love your customers – have empathy
  • Live a healthy life style
  • Stay away from negative people
  • Keep moving forward – don’t re-live past mistakes or failures
  • Be a great listener
  • Don’t over-worry
  • Provide relentless customer service

You become what you think about most of the time.  Shouldn’t that be something you love!
